To celebrate the two-year anniversary of the opening of Dina’s Dwellings, The Town Clock Community Development Corporation will hold Art is Magic, an auction fundraiser, on Thursday, April 26, 2018, 6 – 9 p.m. at Pino’s Gift Basket Shoppe & Wine Cellar in Highland Park. Art is Magic is an evening featuring live and silent auctions of art and jewelry to support programs at Dina’s Dwellings.
The Town Clock Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit that addresses the severe need for permanent, affordable housing for domestic violence victims. Dina’s Dwellings is the Town Clock CDC’s main endeavor, a project which reconfigured the sanctuary of the First Reformed Church to provide ten affordable housing units for victims of domestic violence.
Town Clock CDC Executive Director Susan Kramer- Mills said, “As we move forward we want to focus more on art therapy. Arts and crafts are creative and expressive. They lead to feeling good about one’s self. It is something joyous. Programs started out just for the children and the adults saw what was going on and approached our staff and asked to be included; so we’ve expanded our programs.”
We see how transformative art is for our residents as they address their trauma from domestic violence. We invite you to feel that magic, too. A roving magician will provide entertainment as guests sip wine, enjoy complimentary snacks and bid on beautiful pieces of art and jewelry to bring home.
Pieces include oil paintings, watercolors, mixed media, photography, lithographs, etchings, prints and posters, carved wooden objects and stained glass. Subjects range from depictions of soothing landscapes, portraits, still lifes, florals, Native American and Asian art. Many of the artists featured have works displayed in museums around the country and internationally. Jewelry includes appraised pieces of 14K gold and estate items.
Tickets for Art is Magic are on sale now here. A $10 entrance fee includes light bites and entertainment by magician, Don Clark. Cash bar. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
The catalog of pieces in the show may be downloaded and previewed here: Art Sale Inventory.2 – 2018
Town Clock CDC is currently securing funding for its next project, a three-bedroom, single-family home that will undergo major renovations to develop it into permanent, affordable, supportive housing for a survivor of domestic violence and her children. Information on this project at 15 Bayard St. in New Brunswick will be presented at Art is Magic!
